Scale and proportion make such an important impact on how we experience buildings. Unfortunately, many of the homes built in this country have scale and proportion issues, particularly with large garage spaces sized for cars juxtapostioned (a fancy word architects use for “next to”) to living spaces sized for humans. We have solved this dichotomy by creating “barnlike structures” for the cars to differentiate them from the “home for living.” Design details include siding and/or color changes in addition to creating a courtyard or parking leading to the home’s entry.
